Scientific Integrity Verification Through AI and Digital Image Forensics
Bringing truth into focus.
As AI-generated and edited images become more common in scientific publishing, distinguishing helpful enhancement from deception is increasingly urgent. In this talk, Loyola Computer Science professor Daniel Moreira will show how digital image forensics and AI can support peer reviewers, editors, and authors—handling tedious checks, surfacing red flags, and speeding up sound decisions. He’ll share recent tools his team is building, plus a benchmark dataset of real papers—including retractions—used to evaluate what works (and what doesn’t) in image integrity verification.
Speaker:
Daniel Moreira, PhD, Assistant Professor, Loyola University Chicago
Event info:
Date: Wednesday, December 10, 2025
Time: 4:00-5:00 p.m. (CT)
